Sathavahana Ispat Limited (SIL) is a public limited company incorporated under the Indian Companies Act 1956 in 1989 with limited liability by shares. SIL originally promoted by Mr. A.S.Rao, a first generation entrepreneur and is at present a widely held company with its shares listed on the Indian premier bourses viz., BSE and NSE.
SIL is primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of
- Pig Iron with a rated capacity of 210,000 tpa
- Metallurgical Coke with a rated capacity of 450,000 tpa and
- Co-generation cum thermal power of 50 MW.
As a backward integration, SIL has set up a 2,98,800 tonns per annum sinter plant and 30Mw captive thermal power plant and as a forward integration has setup a 210000 tonns per annum. Ductile Iron making plant and 25000 tonns per annum DI pipe fittings plant.
SIL is promoted by Mr. A.S.Rao a technocrat, first generation entrepreneur. Mr. Rao is a B.Tech. (Metallurgy) with over four and a half decades of experience in Iron and Steel industry. Mr. Rao had a long career of about 22 years with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the largest public sector undertaking for manufacture of Iron and Steel in India, owned by the Government of India. Mr. Rao pursued his industrial career with two small units for manufacture of alloys and re-rolling, which were eventually hived off to take up the present unit during the economic liberalization of India in 1991. Mr. Rao is director on the board of the company since inception and presently is the Executive Vice Chairman of the Board.
Mr. A. Naresh Kumar is another promoter director and is the eldest son of Mr. A.S.Rao. Mr. Naresh is by profession a Chemical Engineer with a Masters from United States. He had a four year stint with transnational companies in U.S. before joining SIL as a full time director. He is director on the board of SIL since inception and was elevated to the position of Managing Director in 1999 which he continues to hold today. Mr. Naresh manages the day to day affairs of SIL under overall superintendence, control and guidance of the Board of Directors of the company. Mr. Naresh is the brain behind the expansion and modernization of the Brownfield operations involving capacity addition of 90000 tpa of Pig Iron and for setting up a Greenfield project for manufacture of 300,000 tpa of Metallurgical Coke and 30 MW of Co-generation Power which capacities were further increased to 450,000 tpa and 50 MW respectively.
Mr A. Ashok Kumar is another promoter and is the younger son of Mr. A.S.Rao. Mr. Ashok is by profession a Mechanical Engineer with a Masters from United States. Mr Ashok started his career with transnational companies in U.S. where he worked for about 14 years. He is at presently engaged with responsibilities for strategic development of company’s business in the international arena.
Mr. A.S.Rao together with his family members and Friends holds at present 37.95% of the equity capital of the company. He and his family members are the Promoters of the company.
