SIL at present is having two manufacturing units in India at the following locations:
Pig Iron manufacture with captive Co-generation Power:

The Pig Iron unit commenced commercial operations in 1994 with initial rated capacity of 120,000 tpa for manufacture of Pig Iron with 3 MW captive co-generation power facility. The facility was modernized and expanded in 2004 to a rated capacity of 210,000 tpa of Pig Iron and 11.43 MW captive co-generation of power involving capital outlay of INR 450 million. The Pig Iron is strategically located close to Bellary-Hospet Iron Ore mines and is in the midst of major consumption centers of finished goods. SIL mainly produces foundry grade Pig Iron and need based basic/steel grade Pig Iron.
Metallurgical Coke making facility has come up at a Greenfield site which is away from the Pig Iron by about 50 km and is well connected by rail and road. The site is located at an equi-distance from major sea ports viz., Krishnapatnam, Chennai and Marmugao. The Bellary-Hospet has a total Metallurgical Coke requirement of 6.5 mtpa including SIL’s own requirement of 0.16 mtpa. By virtue of superior technology deployed by SIL, the Metallurgical Coke manufactured by SIL has a ready marketability. SIL commissioned in March 2007 the Metallurgical Coke facility and in July 2008 the Co-generation power facility. The Metallurgical Coke capacity was enhanced to 450, 000 tpa in December 2010 and power generating capacity to 50 MW by addition of CFBC boiler to debottleneck idle capacity in the turbine in March 2012. About 50% of the Metallurgical Coke manufactured would be consumed by SIL at its Pig Iron making facility. The Surplus Co-generation Power of about 40 MW is being exported through Power Exchanges and on bilateral trade.
