PIG IRON:
SIL markets its finished Pig Iron to the Western, northern, southern and central part of India. Close to 80% of the Pig Iron is sold through dealer network and balance directly to the customers, of which again 15% goes to the industrial consumers like Lakshmi Machine Works; Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra etc. SIL’s Pig Iron enjoys brand value due to technical superiority of the Iron making facilities and modernization of the plant on a continuous basis. SIL has no difficulty in selling its entire produce due to superior quality and it’s proximity to major consumption centers. The Company’s marketing share works to about 2.5% of Pig Iron market in India.
METALLURGICAL COKE:
SIL commissioned 300000 tpa Coke Oven facility with Stamp Charging and waste heat recovery with technology sourced from China and expanded to 450,000 tpa in December 2010. SIL consumes about fifty percent of the production for its captive use of the Pig Iron plant. Balance fifty percent is sold in the Bellary belt where the estimated requirement of the metallurgical Coke is over six and a half million tons. JSW Steels, Mukund, Kalyani and Kirloskar Ferrous are regular customers whose annual requirement is more than six million tons which demand is presently met substantially by imports. By virtue of superior quality and inherent commercial advantages over the imported coke, the company has been successfully marketing its Metallurgical Coke production.
POWER:
SIL has set up a 30 MW of co-generation power plant by recovery of waste heat arising in the process of manufacture of Metallurgical Coke and eventually the generating capacity has been increased to 50 MW by addition of CFBC boiler to de-bottleneck the idle capacity in the turbine . After meeting its captive needs for auxiliary loads, Coke Oven operations and Water pumping which requires about four megawatts, the company is selling about 40 MW of power. The surplus power is sold through bilateral trade and Indian Energy Exchange where the average realization is more than Rs.5.50 / kwh.
